Tell us a little about yourself in a few brief sentences
I am a Veterinary Hydrotherapist for a large Vet Hospital specialising in Neurology Rehabilitation. I love the outdoors and trekking adventures with my horse on foot. I love the home comforts of homegrown, home-cooked and homebaked food. I struggle with food intolerances which means I spend a lot of time having to check ingredients on food labels and normally it's just easier just to cook from fresh myself.

What is your favourite doggy character in a film/book & why?
Fang in Harry Potter- mainly because he is a Mastiff and I've always had Mastiff's.

Share something that not many people know about you
I studied Illustration at University before working with animals.

What is your dream dog breed and why? Do you now or have you previously owned this breed?
Old English Mastiff. We had one growing up and my Grandmother had one before that. My most recent was my best friend. She weighed 70kg (and I kept her slim!). Giving her a hug was like having a squeeze from a human. Sadly I am currently without her and it hasn't felt right to get another. My other best buddy my horse now keeps me company on walks and adventures. He misses her as much as I do.

When did you start your business and what was your inspiration for doing so?
I started baking dog treats in 2013. I baked some human treats for Christmas one year in the shape of my horse and dog. The next Christmas I thought I'd bake for all the dogs of all my friends and family. My work with Veterinary Herbalists and Nutritionists within Canine Rehab, meant I had a bit of an insiders insight into commercial dog food and treats.

I was a believer in knowing exactly my dog was eating and why it was in her food. I asked a lot of questions when food reps came to visit us (which they did not always like!) I had always fed her a simple, natural diet and decided any treats I used for training needed to be the same. I decided I'd start baking my own. I liked the idea of being able to count all the ingredients in her food and treats on two hands. Hence the simple and minimal ingredients in our recipes. These recipes for my own dog's treat turned into 'The Pupcake Princess Dog Bakery'.

Best piece of advice you have been given
On your days off- do the things you love, in the places you love, with people you love.

What is your favourite local business / shop / restaurant and why?
Any good, cared for Garden Centre- I have a love for houseplants and glasshouses! Most garden centres allow you to go in with dogs, and there's normally always an opportunity to enjoy a pot of tea and a piece of homemade (human) cake whilst I sit a sketch plants!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
My Dog Bakery and how it has grown.

What is your perfect day?
A hike with my horse, family and friends. Of course there would have to be a picnic stop with homemade salads and my Dad's best gluten free and sweet potato (I'm intolerant to normal potatoes) pasties! A flask of tea and a homemade cake would have to be involved. Rounded up with a cozy night in surrounded by my houseplants and a sketchbook and pencil in hand.

Tell us a little about your business and why people should use it?
I run The Pupcake Princess Dog Bakery. We bake wheat-free, dairy free dog treats, using natural ingredients. We care about the ingredients that go into our recipes. They have to look good enough for even us humans to eat (and I do eat a lot myself!) Our most popular treats are Birthday Treats and Get Well Treats.

We are fully registered as a pet food plant with DEFRA (despite baking from my own kitchen) and work closely with trading standards to ensure all our labeling and manufacturing is to standard. Most people do not realise Dog Bakery's are meant to be regulated. We all love to spoil our beloved pets in moderation and our treats help you to do that whilst considering ingredients.
