I'm thrilled to feature Claire from Welland Valley Pet Care in my "Meet... in 10 Questions" blog series. Keep reading to find out more about her:

Tell us a little about yourself in a few brief sentences
I live in Market Harborough with my mum. We share our home with my cocker spaniel, Dale, our Maltese dogs and my rabbit, Wesley. I worked in animal rescue for 15 years, then moving into the veterinary sector, where I still work part-time.

What is your favourite doggy character in a film/book & why?
Dogtanian (and the Three Muskerhounds). He is a brave little dog who never gives up on his dreams and will fight any challenges that come in his way – a bit like me, I guess.

Share something that not many people know about you
I hate drinking out of polystyrene cups.

What is your dream dog breed and why? Do you now or have you previously owned this breed?
That’s an easy one, it’s got to be the Yorkshire Terrier. We lost our last two rescue ones a few years ago and I miss them greatly. They are lovely, fun and friendly little dogs who make great company.

When did you start your business and what was your inspiration for doing so?
I started Welland Valley Pet Care in June 2016 by accident. I never planned to run my own business but somehow fell into it by helping out a couple of friends with dog walking. It wasn’t until the third friend, looking for someone to look after her elderly dog overnight, suggested that I should set up my own business, that’s where it started and I have never looked back.

Best piece of advice you have been given
Don’t worry about things, it will always work out in the end.

What is your favourite local business / shop / restaurant and why?
The Café at Welland Park. Always a friendly welcome, regardless of how miserable the day is or how busy they are. Dogs are only allowed in whilst you order, but there is plenty of outside seating where I can enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake with my four-legged friend. The café is a regular stop whilst out walking, love my takeaway coffee whilst walking around the park.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Gaining my BSc (Hons) degree, which I studied later in life whilst working part time.

What is your perfect day?
A sunny, warm day walking through the forest with my dogs, a trip to the pub and watching the sun go down with a glass of wine with family and friends.
