And we're off! The Guild of Photographers' Image of the Month competition begins again for 2019!

With the start of the New Year, the Guild's Image of the Month competition begins again after a couple of months break. If you've followed me on social media, you'll know I enter IOM (as it is known) on a regular basis, and I've been lucky enough to be very successful with 2 Silver and 16 Bronze Awards in 2018, culminating in being awarded the Photographers' Bar.

I began the year in an unusual position - by about the second week in January I had my entries sorted for January, February and March!! I am not normally this organised - and I have been known to be frantically uploading at 11.58pm on deadline day.

My three images for January were uploaded in good time, and I was thrilled to find out on 21st February (results day) that I had been awarded two Bronzes - a great start to the year!

2019 brings a couple of new categories for IOM - where previously all pet, animal and wildlife images have been entered in the Open Category, this year Open has been divided and we now have separate categories for Pets and the Natural World. I think this is going to make for an exciting end of year as people vie for the Image of the Year and Photographer of the Year titles, and will certainly open up the playing field!

My targets for this year's IOM are:

  • to achieve the Photographers Bar in Pets
  • to try for the Photographers Bar in Open - this may not happen as I'm trying something a bit different!
  • to get some more Silvers and maybe even get that elusive Gold!

Here are my Bronze Awards for January:

This portrait of Smudge was taken in an At Home Studio Style Session, with backdrop and lights set up in the available space at home. The photo shoot involved Smudge and her smallest human - don't they say never work with children or animals??

I absolutely love this shot of Smudge and her smallest human, Lillian (my niece)! They were both completely brilliant during the photo shoot, and we all had a great time.

As I mainly photograph dogs, I don't very often have the chance to photograph children, so I was completely thrilled to receive a Bronze Award for this image.
